The older I get the more I’m able to say no to things that I would have done when I was younger. Why? I often ask myself this but I think it’s mostly down to feeling more comfortable with it and with who I am now. Age can often make us think differently too.
Most of us don’t want to offend people or naturally people please. I am also one of these people but I also need to please myself.
It's not easy to do when you have always said the same thing when invited somewhere. Oh I can't that day, I am meeting so and so. I have to work late. I don't have enough money this month.
Many excuses can be found but there will be a solution to all of the above and you will then have to come up with another excuse when an alternative date is given or you don't have to pay because it is going to someone's house.
So, give it a try, it won't be easy the first couple of times but just say "sorry, I can't make it' Does that make you feel uncomfortable in itself? Not giving a reason why? I know, it feels weird doesn't it?
With Christmas just around the corner you will be invited out and if you don't fancy it, just try and say so politely.
Let me know how you get on by dropping me a quick email.
